There is just something about cooking in a dutch oven which makes us feel like we are connecting with our past. There is also something about lasagna which makes us smile and tucks us into our happy place. This Dutch Oven Lasagna recipe thusly makes for not only a fantastic tasting dish but also an amazing yet rustic cooking experience. It is perfect for glamping! If you have never used a dutch oven before, this is a great dish to get you started!
We have included a gear list below, but a few things you will need off the bat is a cast iron dutch oven and some charcoal briquets to heat it. You will also need some basic know-how of how to cook in a cast iron dutch oven. We did a review on a seven-piece dutch oven set which you can find here. The basics, however, are you will need to “season” your dutch oven before using it for the first time, and you need to know how many briquettes you need to reach the desired temp. You can put your cast iron dutch oven in the campfire, but temperature control isn’t as precise. We suggest using the Dutch Oven Temperature Chart we found on campingforfoodies.com.
We also suggest using a dutch oven with the feet on the bottom if using briquettes. If you plan on putting it in the oven, you can use one without the feet. The models with feet allow space for the briquettes to sit, and also enables you to set it over coals in the campfire and the like.
