The AUTO-VOX T1400 Rearview Back Up Mirror Monitor Screen
We recently installed this in our Gulfstream 6238D Class C. Our motorhome had a backup camera which was wired to the standard Ford stereo in the dash. Due to this, we didn’t need to purchase a backup camera, just the mirror. If you need the camera you would need to purchase it separately. The reason we purchased the T1400 was so we could view our vehicle being flat towed. The factory radio/monitor only displayed the backup camera when in reverse. Helpful when backing, not so helpful if you want to verify your towed vehicle is still attached.
The T1400 mirror was packaged well and came complete with necessary installation materials which were a huge plus! As we were using existing wiring from the camera to the radio, we did not mind the included wiring being a little short. If you are not using existing wiring like we were, plan on doing some splicing to get the length you need. The kit is packaged for a small to medium vehicle more so an RV which is understandable. Luckily, you can also spring for the wireless video transmitter if you prefer, and forgo the wiring altogether.
All in the T1400 was easy to install as the E350 dash and pillar plastic covers remove rather easily to allow for easy wire routing. All we had to do was splice into the feed leading to our factory stereo. Following this was to make sure it was hooked to a power source that was on when the key was on. This allowed us to work around the whole reverse activation part.
The first drive with the T1400 up and running was nothing short of life-changing, especially to a new member of the Class C club. Not only is the picture vivid and easy to see in our cab, the gridlines in the display help me keep our coach centered in the lane. I am much more confident having this mirror monitor on board when navigating traffic and towing. Worth every penny in my book!
